About the Role
The Company is seeking a Chief Advancement Officer (CAO) to lead the philanthropic efforts of its National Museum of Natural History. The successful candidate will be responsible for the strategic planning, management, and execution of the museum's fundraising program, with a focus on expanding and enhancing its capacity to raise funds. This includes overseeing all aspects of the advancement program, supervising frontline staff, and managing a portfolio of donors and prospects. The CAO will be expected to work closely with the museum's leadership, including the Director and the Associate Director of Advancement and Communications, to create and promote effective cultivation and solicitation strategies. The role also involves informing senior leadership on private funding matters and managing the museum's Advancement Committee. Applicants for the Chief Advancement Officer position at the company's National Museum of Natural History should be energetic leaders with a minimum of ten years of progressive fundraising experience, including a proven track record in frontline fundraising and closing major gifts. The ideal candidate will have strong communication skills, the ability to translate scientific and technical work into donor-centric language, and experience in building philanthropic partnerships. A background in a complex higher education or large cultural organization is preferred. The role requires the ability to work within a large and diverse institution, a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the capacity to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment. The CAO will also be expected to travel up to 25% of the time and should be adept at working with a variety of constituents, including board members, staff, and donors at local, regional, and national levels.
