Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Emergency Room Registered Nurse to provide high-quality, compassionate care in a fast-paced acute care environment. The ER RN will perform comprehensive assessments, deliver evidence-based interventions, and collaborate closely with physicians and multidisciplinary teams to support optimal patient outcomes. This role involves caring for patients across all age groups and managing a wide range of emergencies.

Responsibilities

The ER RN will:

• Perform initial and ongoing age-appropriate assessments.
• Identify priorities in patient care, develop and implement care plans, and execute appropriate nursing interventions.
• Complete discharge assessments, provide education, and ensure patient/family understanding.
• Communicate effectively with the healthcare team and document all care in accordance with policy.
• Maintain patient and staff safety through proper environment management and equipment readiness.
• Administer medications using the “five rights” and evaluate patient response.
• Participate in multidisciplinary rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and emergency/disaster preparedness efforts.
• Conduct follow-up calls, assist with patient charges, and promote professional behavior.

Required Qualifications

• Active RN license in Maine or compact state
• BLS (required)
• ACLS (preferred)
• BSN preferred
• Minimum 1 year of Emergency Room or acute care nursing experience
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and assessment skills
• Immunization compliance: Varicella (2 doses or titer), HepB (3 doses, titer, or declination), MMR (2 doses or titer), Tdap, PPD 2-step or titer within past 12 months; flu vaccine required in season
• Ability to meet physical demands, including lifting up to 30 lbs, pushing wheelchairs/stretchers, standing, bending, and exposure to infectious agents

Work Environment

• Fast-paced emergency department
• Exposure to infectious diseases, bloodborne pathogens, chemicals, and cleaning agents
• Requires full mobility and sensory acuity

Additional Details

• Facility may cancel up to three shifts within a 12-week period
• On day one, the traveler must report to Human Resources for onboarding
• Agency must provide W-9 and insurance certificates (Workers’ Compensation and Liability $1M/$3M)
